What is the Dirndl for women is the Lederhose for men. Today, Lederhosen are not only a must at folk festivals such as Oktoberfest, but are also increasingly worn at formal occasions like weddings and family celebrations. Although traditional attire is steeped in history, it – and therefore Lederhosen – continues to evolve to this day.

History of the Lederhose

The Lederhose has been widely used and beloved for centuries, particularly in the Alpine region, thanks to its robust and durable material. In earlier times, Lederhosen were typically worn as long trousers; the shorter models only became fashionable in the 1930s – before that, they were even frowned upon by the Catholic Church for being indecent. A major supporter of the Lederhose was King Ludwig II, who founded associations to preserve traditional attire and thus ensured the continuation of Bavarian tradition and the widespread adoption of Lederhosen. Among the first to wear traditional clothing were mainly craftsmen, servants, and miners.

Originally made primarily from rare, tanned red deer leather, today there are also models made from wild goat leather and even goat leather. These softer leathers are especially well-suited and offer a high level of comfort. Quality is always paramount in the manufacturing process. For our Lederhosen, no animal has to be sacrificed solely for the sake of fashion: the leather used is sourced from livestock processing.
