New trachten trends always have their roots in history: the path to trendy fashion
Trachten fashion, as we know it today, primarily originated from the Upper Bavarian mountain tracht. At the end of the 19th century, the preservation of the lederhosen was decided upon, and shortly thereafter, the foundation of numerous „trachten associations“ was laid.
During WWII, the trachten movement faced several setbacks. It wasn´t until after the war that trachten associations were allowed again. However, the love for traditional clothing remained unbroken. Fueled by ist popularity and uniqueness, the fashion gradually spread beyond rural areas.
Despite all the tradition, trachten fashion is not bound by rigid rules. It has continously evolved over time and gradually established itself as ist own fashion trend. Today, the so-called „landhausmode“ (country house fashion) is increasingly common. While still closely tied to traditional clothing in apearance, it increasingly incorporates current fashion trends. This is influenced by the growing popularity of fairs, especially the world´s larges tone – the Munich Oktoberfest. The history of traditional costume fashion is far from over: New trends are already on the horizon.
